NoLuv4Google: February 14th!

[UPDATE]: Read SFT’s satirical press release announcing the launch of NoLuv4Google.com

SFT has launched our site dedicated to getting people to break up with Google. It’s called NoLuv4Google.com and it has a ton of ways for people to show their outrage at Google. Included on the site:

So please, check out NoLuv4Google.com — the central location for progressive action against Google, for free access to information, and on behalf of the Tibetan people and repressed people throughout China.

Google: Don’t Be Evil

As I'm sure many have heard by now the much acclaimed tech company, Google, has agreed to censor search results through it's famous search engine in exchange for greater access to the Chinese market. Terms including Tibet, Dalai Lama, Human Rights, and Democracy among others will be blocked by the company working in conjunction with the Chinese government. Google is just one more high tech company to cave in to the demands of the Chinese government and assist in the repression of the Chinese people as well as ethnic minorities such as the Tibetans. However, for a company that prides itself on it's mission of spreading access to information, and whose company motto is, "Don't Be Evil" this is the height of hypocrisy.

So, it's time to tell Google what we think of it's collaboration with Chinese censorship and repression, and suggest that maybe a new slogan is in order. SFT has been working hard over the past week to develop materials around this new campaign. One is the jammed logo above, which people should disseminate widely.

Second, click here to send a message directly to Google's founders and CEO.

Third, SFT is making a date with Google for February 14th to let them know that they've broken our hearts. Visit www.NoLuv4Google.com to:

MOVIE NIGHT!!

Welcome back to school everyone! On Tuesday Feb 7th we will be showing the film "Daughters of Everest" in Kettler G46 at 4pm. Chips and Soda will be provided so tell a friend!
About the film:

Daughters of Everest" brings a unique flavor to a familiar story: the attempt to climb Mount Everest. In 2000, the first-ever expedition of Sherpa women to climb Everest was organized. This captivating documentary gives a close-up account of the expedition. Although the Sherpa people are legendary for their unmatched skill in mountaineering, Sherpa women are discouraged from climbing Everest, relegated instead into support roles in the climbing industry of Nepal. Told from a woman's perspective rarely seen on Everest or off, this film is both a dramatic, inspiring Everest story and an absorbing portrait of the Sherpa community.

“Hack” the Google homepage

Thanks to the amazing Amos, you can now replace the Google logo with our own jammed version (courtesy of Free Range).

Here’s the step-by-step:

1) Make sure you have the latest Firefox web browser

2) Install the Grease Monkey extension (make sure to restart Firefox after you do!)

3) Install the “Evil Google Logo” greasemonkey script (Go to the page; click on “Install this Script”; Third, click the “Tools” menu, and Install User Script in your Firefox menu. Then just click OK and it’s all done. Easy!) [The script has been updated with LouCypher's to work on all Google local domains.]

4) Go to google.com, google.ca, or google.co.uk and laugh! show all your friends! laugh! (repeat)

Right now the script doesn’t work with google.cn, but its pretty obvious that’s evil. And don’t worry, you aren’t actually doing anything to the google servers – its just replacing it on your computer.

[UPDATE]: LouCypher has modified Amo’s script so that it now works for all local Google pages. Thanks Lou and thanks again Amos!!!
