More coverage of China’s shooting of unarmed Tibetan refugees

As NattyDread reported earlier this week on this blog, Chinese forces opened fire on a group of over seventy Tibetan refugees, killing at least two people. The Tibetans were attempting to cross the Nangpa Pass from Tibet into Nepal. These innocent, unarmed Tibetans were given no warning and China has violated international law and all standards of human decency by murdering these Tibetans.

More reports and updates will come soon, but for now please check out the following links to news articles and blog posts about the shooting.

Also, if you are a mountaineer who witnessed this shooting from Cho Oyo advance base camp and you have information that will help us bring attention to this horrendous act, please do not hesitate to contact us 212-358-0071 or via email at campaigns@studentsforafreetibet.org. Innocent lives have been lost and your testimony can help focus the world’s outrage against China for this atrocity.

Subject: Nangpa La shooting of Tibetans escaping Tibet

    Dear Team explorerweb.com,

I would like to thank you for bringing out the eye witness account of the shooting of group of Tibetans, nuns and children included at Nangpa La on the morning of September 30th. Howeever, its very disturbing to learn that many western climbers, who were eye witness to the shooting down of a young Tibetan nun and another young Tibetan boy, did not speak out forecefully to the outside world, as to what actually happened that fateful morning. What about the fate of the other missing Tibetans in the group?

The children, six of them were marched back to Tibet by the Chinese border police. These children’s fate will be unknown to the outside world once they are under Chinese police custody. These children were escaping the from Tibet for a better education and future in India. Now their dreams and hopes for a better education and freedom is shattered and doomed. Its disturbing to know that none of the climbers who witness all this sad happenings at the camp, came forward to help these innocent children. I am sure, as human beings, we all value human dignity, freedom and human rights.

Some climbers have come forward with accounts of what they saw and spoke to the media and also posted photographs of this tragic shooting and also pictures of the detained children. I applaud them for their courage and for speaking the truth.

I would strongly urge the climbers community to come forward and speak to the media, what actually happened on the morning of September 30th at Nangpa La. Please let the world know what happened, Please speak the truth. Life is more than hitting the summit.

With prayers for all and to the brave Tibetans who lost their lives in the mountians.

    Thank you
