The Lhad-blog in the IHT

With the one-year countdown to the 2008 Olympics fast approaching, Lhadon’s efforts in Beijing were covered in an article in the International Herald Tribune (the New York Times is running the same article in its August 7 edition):

An advocate of Tibetan independence, Lhadon Tethong, executive director of Students for a Free Tibet, also based in New York, has been filing daily updates on her blog as she tours Beijing this week.

“It’s an opportunity for us to highlight this issue and let the world know that Tibetans are still suffering,” Tethong said.

She said three unmarked vehicles followed her for two days but did not interfere or detain her.

Asked whether her mere presence in Beijing proved that officials were tolerating more criticism, Tethong said: “I think they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They’ve got the whole world watching right now.”
