Tibet gets support from 26 Nobel laureates & Speaker Pelosi

When Chinese leaders vilify His Holiness the Dalai Lama, can they possibly believe what they say? Maybe it’s a bit of doublethink, from an inability to admit that their Tibet policies are so mired in failure despite five decades of occupation to get it “right.”

In yet another development that should (but won’t) show the Chinese leadership how wrong they are, 26 Nobel laureates of great moral authority condemned China’s policies in Tibet:

Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel and 25 other Nobel laureates on Thursday condemned the Chinese government’s violent crackdown on Tibetan protesters and called on Beijing to exercise restraint.

“We protest the unwarranted campaign waged by the Chinese government against our fellow Nobel laureate, His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” the group said in a statement released by Wiesel.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, traveled all the way to Dharamsala, India to make a point of support by meeting with the Dalai Lama:

The Dalai Lama meets with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today at his headquarters in northern India as he tries to build international pressure on China to show restraint in dealing with protests in Tibet. [...]

Pelosi and the Dalai Lama will attend prayers and are expected to issue a joint statement later today, he added.

Chinese leaders, in their paranoid bunker mentality, see this all as an evil “plot” to “split” China. When you think Elie Wiesel is out to get you, you better stop and consider whether you need some medication.

Maybe, just maybe, the Chinese government should think that all these people just care about Tibetans. You know, those Tibetans that China “liberated” back in 1951 and who are still, strangely, calling for freedom in the face of those liberating Chinese soldiers.
