New Delhi, April 16

The torch passed through Delhi, India yesterday, but the only people who were able to participate in China’s “journey of harmony” were the 15,000 members of the Indian police who were deployed along the relay route to ensure Tibetan protesters were held back.

Just hours after the torch arrived at Palam Technical Area, under the cover of a massive security presence, Shibayan Raha, a member of SFT, was detained by the police after he displayed a Tibetan flag and called for “No Torch in Tibet”.

Over thirty Tibetans and supporters gathered at the Meridian Hotel for a pre-dawn protest foreshadowing the showdown of the protests later that day when the authorities ran the torch through the silent streets of Delhi.
